Northwestern holds off Bethany ladies

Box Score

Mankato Minn. – The Vikings were beaten at home by their conference opponent the Northwestern Eagles.

Alexa Mowery (Fairmont Minn. / Fairmont) was between the posts again for the Bethany Women, saving 15 shots on net while letting only two get by. The defense was solid, but it was an obvious lack of offensive push that kept the Vikes on their heels digging in against the Eagles.

Northwestern scored two goals, one at the thirteenth minute, the other in the sixty-second minute. Still, even down 2-0 the Bethany women fought for every ball and were even able to score in the eighty-second minute, a blast by Joelle Pipal (Mankato Minn.) assisted by freshman Taylor Friehl. They were just not able to complete the comeback despite many well-run plays at the end of the game.

The Bethany women are now 4-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

The Vikes will look to make up for lost ground against conference opponent Crown College in Mankato at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
