Nichols will enter his second season at the helm of the Vikings during the 2025 season.
In 2024, the Vikings went 9-7-3 and 8-2-2 in the UMAC, winning a UMAC Tournament semifinal game 5-1 over Northwestern to advance to the program's first ever UMAC Championship where they fell to UW-Superior. Seven different Vikings earned All-Conference honors with Elena Lujan Rubio going on to earn All-Region honors.Â

Nichols comes to Bethany after serving for two years as an assistant coach of the women's program at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. In his two seasons at Luther, the Norse posted a 16-15-8 overall record and won their opening round playoff game both years. Nichols also worked with the Luther men's program in 2022, helping them to reach their first NCAA National Tournament since 2019.

Prior to his time at Luther, Nichols was the head boys' soccer coach at DeLaSalle High School (Minneapolis, Minnesota) where he amassed a 38-9-2 overall record, leading the Islanders to an undefeated regular season and conference title in 2021 for which he was honored with the Section Coach of the Year award. While at DeLaSalle, he also worked as a student support specialist, helping students track their grades, develop good study habits, and navigate the COVID pandemic.

Nichols has also coached at the club level in the Twin Cities for both Minneapolis City as well as the Fusion Soccer Club (Plymouth). With City, he was part of a staff that went 21-2-1 over two seasons and won two National Premier Soccer League North Conference titles. He worked primarily with the defenders, helping the group to achieve a goals against average of less than one per game, with three defenders gaining All-Conference accolades.

As a collegiate player, Nichols was a four-year defender for Bethel University (Arden Hills, Minnesota).
