After completing his career at Bethany, Jon accepted a baseball scholarship at the University of Minnesota. He played for two seasons for the Gophers and lettered both years. After his completing his eligibility at U of M he moved back to Mankato to finish his degree in elementary and special education at Mankato State.
In 1994 Jon started a town team baseball team in Garden City, Minnesota. In 1997 he accepted a position in his hometown of Norwood Young America as a special education teacher and freshman baseball coach. The following year he took over the head coaching position and has held it ever since. Jon continues to teach special education in the Central school district.
Jon and his family reside in Norwood Young America; fittingly enough with center field of the town baseball field as his front yard.
