Mankato, Minn. – The men’s basketball team started out slow but came back in the second half to shoot 59.26 percent from the field and defeat Northland 77-66.
Bethany held the LumberJacks to a 43.3 field goal percentage and 29.4 percent from thee-point range. The Vikings shot 48.3 percent from the field and 23.8 percent from behind the thee-point arc. BLC outrebounded Northland 34-31 and had four more second chance points. The Vikings bench stepped-up contributing 22 points while the bench on Northland’s side scored seven.
Four Viking players scored in double figures. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) led the way with 23 points, he also had two assists and three steals. Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had 14 points and three blocks. Alex Weldon (Marion, Iowa./Limar) had 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, two block and three steals. Garret Benson (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) had 10 points and three rebounds. Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central) led the team in rebounds with nine. He also had five points, two assists, one block and one steal.
The Vikings are now 5-9 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Vikings are the only Upper Midwest Athletic Conference team that has an undefeated conference record. Next, the will play at Minnesota-Morris on Friday, January 20th at 7:30 p.m.
