Men's basketball breaks record with win over Crown

Mankato, Minn. – The Bethany men’s basketball team reached a milestone with an 84-69 victory over the Crown Storm going on a six game winning streak, the longest for BLC men’s basketball since becoming a NCAA Division III institution.
 
The Vikings shot 53.3 percent from the field while holding Crown to a 32.0 field goal percentage. Bethany played tough defensively outrebounding its competitor 39-27. Scoring was spread out with 10 players contributing points, five players scored in double figures.
 
Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) came off the bench to lead the Vikings offensively with 15 points. Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central) had 13 points and led the team in rebounds with nine. Garvin also had two assists and two steals. Alex Weldon (Marion, Iowa/Linmar) had 11 points and went 4-4 from the free throw line. Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) and Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) both had 10 points. Peterson also had seven rebounds and a team high five assists.
 
Bethany will host last year’s conference champions, Northwestern, tomorrow, January 28th at 5 p.m. The Vikings improve to 8-9 overall and are the only team in the UMAC with an undefeated conference record at 6-0.
