Mankato, Minn. – The men’s basketball team finally pulled away from Northwestern in overtime to remain undefeated in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference. The Vikings beat the Eagles 80-73.
It was tied 31-31 at the half and 68-68 at the end of regulation. The Vikings managed to outscore the Eagles 12-5 in overtime to solidify the victory. Bethany shot a 44.3 field goal percentage and 40.0 percent from three-point range. Northwestern shot 47.0 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from behind the arc. The Vikings continue to be solid from the charity stripe shooting an 84.3 free-throw percentage. The Eagles shot 66.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had a personal season high of 28 points. Kroehler also had five rebounds and two blocks. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) had 18 points, six rebounds and three assists. Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central) also had six rebounds. He contributed six points, two assists and three steals. Alex Weldon (Marion, Iowa/Linmar) had eight points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Vikings are undefeated halfway through the conference season at 7-0, they improve to 9-9 overall. Bethany will take on archrival Martin Luther at home Tuesday, January 31
st at 7:30 p.m.
