Mankato, Minn. – The Vikings kept their winning streak alive by defeating the Martin Luther Knights 83-66 Tuesday night.
Bethany shot slightly better logging 43.3 percent from the field while the Knights shot 41.3 percent from the field. Bethany also outrebounded their competitor grabbing 45 boards compared to Martin Luther’s 40. The Vikes worked hard defensively breaking a Bethany record with nine blocks in a single game. The previous record was eight blocks set back in 2008. The Vikings also forced 17 turnovers and had 14 steals.
Alex Weldon (Marion, Iowa/Linmar) recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds; he also added three steals and one block. Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur) had 17 points, four blocks, two assists and three steals. Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central) had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) led the team in assists with five. Peterson also contributed seven points, four rebounds, three block and two steals.
The Vikings have won eight games in a row, which is the Bethany men’s basketball record for most consecutive wins. They are currently first in the conference with an undefeated 8-0 UMAC record and are 10-9 overall. This weekend the Vikings will play their final regular season home games of the year. Friday Bethany will take in Presentation at 7:30 p.m., Saturday they will compete with Minnesota-Morris at 5 p.m.
