Men's basketball clinches regular season UMAC title with weekend wins

The men’s basketball team won their first regular season Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Championship after defeating Northland and St. Scholastica over the weekend on the road.
 
Bethany beat Northland 70-68 in overtime fighting hard to keep their unblemished conference record. The Vikings shot 41.7 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from behind the three-point arc. Bethany struggled at the free-throw line only shooting 10-21. Northland shot 40.4 percent from the field but was only 5-17 from three-point range.
 
Alex Weldon (Marion, Iowa/Linmar) led the team offensively with 26 points. Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur,Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had 21 points and eight rebounds.
 
Against UMAC second ranked St. Scholastica the Vikings stayed composed earning a 62-49 victory. The Vikings held the Saints to 29.8 percent from the field while managing 40.4 percent from the field.
 
Kroehler once again had 21 points and eight rebounds. He also had two blocks. Weldon had 20 points and four rebounds. Deon Wright (Milwaukee, Wis./Messmer) led the team in assists with four.
 
The Vikings are now 12-0 in the UMAC and 14-9 overall. Bethany finishes the regular season on the road this weekend before hosting the fourth seed in the first round of the UMAC Post-season Tournament on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:30 p.m.
