Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany men's basketball hosted their final home game before the new year Thursday night as they entertained Coe College. It was close throughout, but the Kohawks pulled away in the second half and gave the Vikings a 74-63 setback in the non-conference contest.
Bethany jumped out to an early five-point lead.
Luke Roddy opened the scoring with a 3 and
Trent Kuechenmeister followed with a lay-in and a 3 off his own as the Vikings led 8-3.
Coe followed with a 17-4 run to take 20-12 advantage with 8:44 to go. BLC followed with six straight, a run that included a 3 from
Mitch Hopkins to cut the deficit to 20-18. The Kohawks would extend the lead from there as they went into the break leading 34-24.
In the second half, a
Nick Sanborn lay-in brought Bethany within seven at 41-34 with 15:55 left. Coe took control of the game from there pushing their lead up to 23 with 8:52 to go. BLC wouldn't go quietly though as they cut their deficit down to ten after a Hopkins 3 with 5:04 to go. That's as close as it would get as Coe closed it out from there.
Hopkins led Bethany with 14 points off the bench. Roddy scored 11 while Kuchenmeister added ten.
JT Vonderhaar led the Kohawks with 21 points.
Bethany (1-8) is off until January 3 when they travel to Dubuque for a non-conference road tilt.
