Box Score 2 The Bethany men's basketball team needed two wins to remain in the UMAC championship picture and that's what they got as the Vikings won a pair of road games to move to 7-3 in the conference. They trail Northwestern by a single game as the Eagles come to Mankato Friday to battle for the top spot in the UMAC.
In Friday's 74-57 victory over St. Scholastica, Derek Peterson led the way with 20 points as the Vikings outscored the Saints by 18 in the second half to secure the win. Alex Weldon was close behind totaling 18 points while shooting 4-for-6 from three and Garet Tucker came off the bench to score 11.
Bethany shot 55 percent from the floor and from three-point range in the second half to pull away to the win.
The Vikings continued their hot shooting in Saturday's game in Ashland, Wis. against Northland College. BLC shot 74 percent from the floor including 7-for-13 from three to build a 54-18 halftime lead over the Lumberjacks. They wound up shooting 67 percent as the Vikings routed Northland 106-54.
Senior Gavin Kroehler led the way scoring 29 points on 13-for-18 shooting to lead four Vikings in double figures. Garet Tucker came scored in double digits again notching 13 points and led the team in rebounds with six. Weldon scored 11 and Deon Wright added ten.
