Knox tops Vikings in high-scoring affair

Box Score GALESBURG, Ill. --- The Bethany women's basketball team wrapped up its non-conference portion of the schedule by ending their Milwaukee-Chicago road trip with a matchup against Knox College. For the second straight day, the Vikings put up over 90 points, but the Prairie Fire were able to score over 100 as Bethany dropped the contest 105-97.

The game could not have started better for Bethany as Jade Pelzl started the contest with a three and Aimie Wiechmann drained two of them as BLC took a 9-0 lead a minute and a half into the game.

Knox soon caught fire though and used a 20-2 run to take a 29-19 lead with 9:30 left in the first. The Vikings fought back to tie it at 40 after a pair of Wiechmann free throws. The Prairie Fire, however, closed the half on a 16-9 spurt to take a seven point lead into the locker room.

Bethany fell behind by as many as 16 in the second half, but did close the gap to five points on two occasions, the last time at 98-93 with 1:51 left in regulation.

Pelzl scored a game-high 23 points for the Vikings. Two players recorded double-doubles: Angie Scheffler scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds while Kasslin Swenson contributed 14 points, 15 rebounds, and seven assists.
