Lumberjacks defeat Bethany men

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - In a tightly contested game, Northland began pulling away midway through the second half as they defeated Bethany 66-56 Friday night in UMAC men's basketball.

The Vikings led for most of the first half and went up by six at 16-10 following a Nick Sanborn jumper with 9:04 left in the opening half. They would later go up by eight at 28-20 after a Bradley Rose 3-pointer with 3:00 remaining. Northland though went on a 13-3 run to close out the half to take a 33-31 advantage into the break.

It remained tight for the first part of the second half with neither team leading by more than three points. Martin Stevens' jumper gave Bethany the lead at 41-40 with 12:52 left in the game. The Lumberjacks went on a 10-2 spurt over the next three minutes to go up 50-43. Bethany would get no closer as Northland would pull out the road win.

Rose led Bethany with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sanborn totaled 10 points and eight boards.

Bethany (3-14, 3-3 in UMAC) hosts St. Scholastica Saturday at 5 p.m.
