NORTHFIELD, Minn. – First-year Head Coach Matt Fletcher and the 2016-17 Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team began their season Tuesday night against Carleton College, a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). The Knights defeated the Vikings 84-64 on their home court.
The Vikings and Knights began the 2016-17 season ranked fifth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and MIAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Carleton jumped out to a 20-7 in the first 11 minutes of the contest.
- Bethany continued to play from behind throughout the first half, trailing 42-31 at the break.
- The Knights outrebounds the Vikings 52-29 in 40 minutes of action.
- BLC finished with three second chance points while the Knights collected 18.
- BLC held the advantage in the forced turnovers category, forcing 16 compared to 13 from the Knights.
HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE VIKINGS:
- Brandyn Frelix (Minneapolis, Minn.) led Bethany with 17 points and five rebounds
- Neil Eichten (Wabasso, Minn.) and Austin Bauer (Caledonia, Minn.) contributed with nine points apiece.
- The Rose Brothers, Brady and Bradley each scored seven points with a combined seven rebounds.
Up Next:
The men's basketball team will begin their home portion of the 2016-17 schedule on Friday, November 18th against Maranatha Baptist. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. from the North Gym in the Sports and Fitness Center.
