SUPERIOR, Wis. – To complete the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) travel weekend, the Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior 96-92 to improve to 9-4 in conference action.
 
With the weekend sweep of St. Scholastica and UW-Superior, Head Coach Matt Fletcher and his Vikings hold down the second spot in the conference standings, behind the University of Northwestern.
 
Senior Brandyn Frelix (Minneapolis, Minn.) had another stellar performance against the Yellowjackets at their place. Last season when the Vikings visited Superior, Frelix dropped 38 points in the efforts against UWS. On Saturday, the forward scored 32 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He also collected eight rebounds and dished out five assists in 31 minutes of court time. Guard Neil Eichten (Wabasso, Minn.) added 17 points while Jarred Merchant (Kimball, Minn.) had 15 points and six rebounds.
 
UW-Superior had three players foul out in the game, which helped send the Vikings to line 39 times for 28 points. BLC finished the contest shooting 51.6% (32-62) from the field while connecting on 25% (4-16) from outside range. The Vikings also brought down 43 rebounds compared to the Yellowjackets 37.
 
The largest lead for Bethany Lutheran was midway through the first half of action when leading by 11 points. BLC led for the entire 40 minutes of conference basketball.

The Vikings (13-9, 9-4) continue conference action on Friday night in Ashland, Wisconsin when they take on the Northland Lumberjacks.  The action will begin at 7:30 p.m.
