WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Bethany Vikings (10-6), sitting at the top of the UMAC, had a break from league play this weekend and hit the road to take on the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats (7-5). The Vikings faced a scrappy Sabercat team, but put the game away in the second half with a 19-0 run to win by a final score of 90-68.
The Vikings played well on their way to a 15 point lead in the first half, but the Sabercats fought their way back, cutting the lead to seven points with just seconds remaining. Dan Gutzmer buried a long two-point shot just before the buzzer and the Vikings took a 44-35 lead into the break. Trenton Krueger and Austin Bauer each had 10 points in the first half for the Vikings. Bethany was 16-29 (55.2%) from the field in the first half, 5-9 (55.6%) from three, and 7-7 from the free throw line.
The Vikings were ahead of the Sabercats 48-40 before a 19-0 burst sealed the win. Every Viking in a uniform saw action tonight. Jake Dale scored 10 second half points on his way to a team-high 16 total. Trenton Krueger finished the game with 15 points and Blake Lindstrom scored 13 off the bench, going 3-4 from deep. The Vikings shots 33-60 (55.0%) as a team, 10-19 (52.6%) from three, and 14-15 (93.3%) from the free throw line.
