Decorah, IA. – The Vikings men's basketball team fell short on the road against the Luther College Norse, losing 80-82. The loss marks the Vikings third straight loss and sets their record at 2-3
.
The game started out fairly close, with the Vikings up 9-8 halfway through the first half. However, a late half 23-9 run for the Norse gave them a half time lead of 37-22. The Norse out shot the Vikings in the first too, shooting 34% from the field against the Vikings 25. In the second half, the Vikings fought back. They started out going on a massive 30-13 run to put them up 52-50 with 10:50 remaining in the half. The Vikings tried to stay with the Norse, but a late 9-3 run for the Norse put the Vikings in a hole too big to climb out of.
The Vikings were able to outpace the Norse in nearly every category; with a 10-4 second chance point advantage, a 20-14 points in the paint advantage, and a 42%-36% field goal advantage. The Vikings also outscored the Norse 58-45 in the second half.
The Vikings were led by
Cire Mayfield with 17 points and
Trenton Krueger with 14 points.
