Northfield, MN. – The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings men's basketball team started their 2018 season with a 70-61 win over the Carleton College Knights. The win starts the Vikings off in the right place at 1-0.
The beginning of the game started off close. Neither team could gain a significant lead, the biggest of which was a 5 point, 16-21 lead for the Knights. The biggest stat difference in the first half came from the points off turnovers. The Knights scored 11 points compared to the Vikings 7. The second half saw the Vikings take command over the game with a 14-5 run late into the half. With the help of that run, the Vikings were able to win the game 70-61.
The Knights put up a fight against the Vikings, keeping things close throughout the game. The Vikings had 17 bench points compared with the Knights 18, 24 points in the paint to the Knights 26, and 8 fast break points to the Vikings 9. However, the Vikings offense overpowered the Knights with 44.6% field goal shooting and 30% three point shooting.
The Vikings were led by
Cire Mayfield with 24 points and 4 assists.
Jake Dale and
Jared Milinkovich both had 2 steals.
Jared Milinkovich also had 2 blocks.
