Moorhead, MN. – The Bethany Lutheran College Vikings men's basketball team defeated the Concordia College Cobbers in a close game by a score of 74-71. The victory makes five straight for the Vikings and puts their record at 8-5. This was a non-conference game, so the Viking's UMAC record stays at 3-1.
The game started slowly, and stayed close. Two minutes into the game, the Cobbers were leading by a score of just 6-5, and the score would stay 6-5 for almost two and a half minutes. The Vikings were able to pick the game up after that, and halfway through the first half they held an 18-16 lead. The Vikings were able to push their lead to five, and the first half would end with a 37-33 Viking lead.
The Cobbers would come back in the second half and tie the score at 42. The Cobbers would see their own lead grow to a peak of four points, but the Vikings would fight back and the game would be tied at 56 with ten minutes left in the second half. The game continued to go back and forth, and with two minutes left the Cobbers held a 67-66 lead. But the Vikings would take charge and finish on a 7-5 run, and win 74-71.
The Vikings were led by
Cire Mayfield with 18 points and 4 assists,
Jarred Merchant with 17 points, and
Trenton Krueger had 16 points and 4 rebounds.
