Mankato, MN. – The Vikings women's basketball team beat the University of Northwestern Eagles at home 81-59. The win extends the Vikings record to 17-4. With a UMAC record of 11-1 the Vikings are tied for first in the conference.
The Vikings would come out hot, going on a 9-4 run. The Vikings were able to carry their momentum throughout the first quarter, and would end with a 15-10 lead. The second quarter would be the best one for the Vikings, outscoring the Eagles 21-9 in route to taking a 36-19 lead at the half. The Vikings would hold a 40%-23% field goal advantage and a 46%-9% three point shooting advantage at the end of the first half.
The Eagles would keep the second half closer, but the Vikings were still able to outscore them 45-40. In the third quarter, the Vikings would maintain a 20-point minimum lead, including a quarter high 29 points. The fourth quarter would be the only one where the Eagles outscored the Vikings, 22-18, but the Vikings would still extend their lead to a game high 31 and take a 81-59 victory.
Two Vikings players came close to having a double-double;
Abby Olson would have 14 points and 7 rebounds and
Hanna Geistfeld would have 19 points and 7 rebounds.
Haley Sandin had 17 points with 7 assists.
