MENOMONIE, Wis. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team (3-2 overall) defeated UW-Stout (2-3) 103-99 Tuesday night. The Vikings have now won the last four-straight in the series against the Blue Devils.
BLC also moved to 13-3 in 100 point games in the program's NCAA Division III era.
Junior Jared Milinkovich (New Prague, Minn.) led the Vikings with 22 points. Four teammates joined him in double digits as sophomore Cire Mayfield (St. Louis Park, Minn.) followed with 17, freshman Justin Schrupp (Danube, Minn.) and senior Trenton Krueger (Eagan, Minn.) each had 12 and junior Brian Smith (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) had 10.
The first part of the game remained close and was tied twice, which included 10-10 with 14:50 to play. BLC then started to build its lead and later led 30-15 with 8:35 remaining and took the five-point lead (47-42) at halftime.
Bethany was able to quell a late scoring rally by the Blue Devils as they cut it to a two-point game with 14 seconds remaining. UW-Stout chose to foul and Milinkovich made both free throws with seven seconds left to push the margin to four (103-99). The home team attempted one last three-pointer, but was unsuccessful to seal the win for the Vikings.
BLC owned the team advantages in field goal percentage (48.6 vs. 44.7) and assists (16-9).
Bethany continues its three-game roadswing Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at Martin Luther to open the conference portion of its schedule.
