LAKEVILLE, MN – The Bethany Lutheran men's tennis team was locked in a playoff race with Martin Luther College. Both teams were 3-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and squared off today for the right to advance. The Vikings battled hard, but fell to the Knights 5-4, bringing their season to an end.
Dalton Werckman and Carter Dahl paired up one more time at #1 doubles, but couldn't quite get the win, losing 8-6. Laine Larson and Nico Martinez Biali picked up a win at #2 doubles by a score of 8-2. Larson and Biali ended their season together with a UMAC record of 4-1. The Knights won at the #3 doubles spot, defeating Noah Gernander and David Lee 8-0.
Laine Larson went 2-0 on the final day of his career, winning at #1 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-3. Dalton Werckman lost a tight match at #2 singles by a score of 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. At #3 singles, Carter Dahl fought back after losing the first set 6-2 and won the match, winning 7-6 (7-2) and 10-6 in the final two sets. Nico Martinez Biali also went 2-0 on the day with a three-set win at #4, 4-6, 7-5, 11-9. MLC would win the final two singles matches to take the match by a score of 5-4.
The Vikings will say goodbye three seniors in Laine Larson, Dalton Werckman, and Carter Dahl. The three seniors made up the top three singles spots for the Vikings this year. Dahl and Werckman finish their BLC careers as number two and three respectively all-time in singles victories. Larson, Dahl, and Werckman all finish their careers in the top five for doubles victories.
