MANKATO, Minn. – Five players for the Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team (15-5 overall, 10-1 UMAC) finished in double digits in Saturday's 108-91 win over St. Scholastica (10-10, 7-4).
Junior Jared Milinkovich (New Prague, Minn.) had 20, sophomore Cire Mayfield (St. Louis Park, Minn.) had 19, senior Trenton Krueger (Eagan, Minn.) and junior Brian Smith (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) both had 14, and freshman Hunter Nielsen (New Prague, Minn.) completed the leaders with 10 points.
The Vikings increased their winning streak to 10, which currently stands as the third-longest in program history. This was also the sixth 100-point game of the season, and has won all of those matchups.
The victory completed yet another season sweep and helped Bethany remain atop the UMAC team standings.
BLC was a perfect 10-10 from the field to start the game, and Mayfield had seven points in the first three minutes of the contest. Bethany led 54-43 at halftime, and Krueger had 12 points, Mayfield had 11 and Smith and Milinkovich each had 10.
The Saints sliced the margin to eight just under a minute and a half into the second frame, but a layup by Mayfield helped Bethany regain the double figure lead (60-50) which it would not relinquish.
The Vikings forced 16 turnovers, while they only surrendered the ball nine times. They have also clinched a spot in the UMAC Tournament.
BLC opens a three-game road trip Wednesday when it travels to face North Central at 5:30 p.m.
