ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — Bethany Lutheran (3-0 overall) knocked of No. 17 UW-Oshkosh (2-1) 65-61 at Saint Benedict's Tipoff Tournament Friday.
This was the second win over a Top 25 team in program history, as the first occurred in the 62-58 victory over No. 6/6 Bethel on March 6, 2020 in the First-round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Vikings led 18-17 after the first quarter, but the Titans used a 17-10 second frame to pull ahead 34-28 at halftime.
UW-Oshkosh led by 10 two minutes into the third quarter. BLC sliced it to four on a triple from senior Hanna Geistfeld (Truman, Minn.) with 6:37 to go. The Titans increased the margin to eight at 44-36 with 4:26 to play, but the Vikings ended the frame on a 8-2 run to make it a one-point game.
The score changed hands 10 times in the fourth quarter, which included a tie at 57 all with 3:50 to play. The Vikings went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes and were able to hold off a late rally and last-second shot attempts by the Titans to seal the win.
Geistfeld finished with 17 points and sophomore Sara Kottke (Buffalo Lake, Minn.) followed with 16. Junior Taryn Christensen (South Sioux City, Neb.) finished with eight points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Bethany returns to the court tomorrow to face host-Saint Benedict at 3 p.m.
