Box Score ASHLAND, Wis. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team (4-5 overall, 1-1 UMAC) fell 77-69 to Northland (2-8, 2-0) Saturday.
The Vikings led 37-30 at halftime. The second half was back and forth as Northland reclaimed the lead with 7:00 remaining. BLC battled back and knotted the score at 64 all on a layup from senior Cire Mayfield (St. Louis Park, Minn.) with 4:38 to play.
The LumberJacks regained the lead three minutes later on two successful free throws (66-64) with 1:29 to go. A driving layup from senior Jared Milinkovich (New Prague, Minn.) on the ensuing possession tied the game once more at 66 all with 1:08 remaining. From that point, Northland outscored BLC 11-3 to earn the victory.
Junior Hunter Nielsen (New Prague, Minn.) led the team with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Mayfield and Smith joined him in double figures with 14 points each.
Bethany owned the team advantages in all both field goal shooting percentage categories, assists, blocks, and steals.
The Vikings return to action on the road Friday against Marian at 7 p.m.
