Geistfeld Surpasses 2,000 Career Point Mark in Viking Victory

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. —The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team (11-6 overall, 6-0 UMAC) defeated Crown (5-8, 1-5) 88-68 Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings moved their winning streak to four, remained undefeated in UMAC play, and marked the 33rd-straight victory over the Storm.

Senior Hanna Geistfeld (Truman, Minn.) continued to make history as she scored her 2,000th career point on her layup with 2:03 left in the third quarter. One day after she set BLC's career scoring record, she became the first player in UMAC women's basketball history in the NCAA Division III era (since 2008) to eclipse the 2,000 point mark.

Geistfeld finished with 32 points and 18 rebounds for her 12th double double of the season. This was also her fourth-straight 30-point game.

Crown opened the first four minutes of the contest on a 7-0 run, and later led 17-13 after the first quarter.

BLC answered with a big second quarter effort as it outscored the Storm 26-16. Geistfeld gave Bethany its first lead of the day as she converted a three-point play for the 21-20 lead with 6:58 left.

The lead would trade hands seven times over the next two minutes. A triple from sophomore Sara Kottke (Buffalo Lake, Minn.) helped the Vikings reclaim the lead for good at 30-27 with 4:58 remaining, as BLC went into the locker room with the 39-33 advantage.

Bethany continued to lead over the duration of the second half.

BLC held the team advantages in all three shooting percentage categories, rebounds, assists, and blocks. Defensively, the Strom were held to 23.8% from three-point range.

The Vikings return to the court Tuesday when they host North Central at 7 p.m.
