NEW ULM, Minn. — Four Bethany Lutheran players finished in double digits in the 97-75 win over Martin Luther Saturday. Senior Hanna Geistfeld (Truman, Minn.) led all scorers with 32 points, freshman Grace Sikkink (Blaine, Minn.) finished with a career-high 17, freshman Haley Meyer (Centerville, S.D.) had a career-high 15, and junior Taryn Christensen (South Sioux City, Neb.) tallied 13 points.
Geistfeld nearly had a double double with her team-high nine rebounds, and also added six assists.
With the victory, BLC is 8-6 on the season and 3-0 in UMAC play. This was the 13
th-straight win in the series for the Vikings.
The first quarter remained close as it was knotted at 17 all with 1:03 to go. After two free throws from Sikkink, the Knights hit a triple with two seconds left to take the narrow one-point lead into the second frame.
Christensen opened the first three minutes of the second quarter on a 6-0 run by herself to claim a five-point lead. Her teammates joined her efforts and began to build 10-point lead on a layup by Geistfeld with 5:12 to play.
Martin Luther made it a one-point game on a free throw with 2:04 to go in the third, but two consecutive layups from Geistfeld pushed the margin to five to close the stanza.
In the fourth, back-to-back treys from sophomore Sara Kottke (Buffalo Lake, Minn.) extended Bethany's lead to 15 as it would hold a double digit margin for the duration of the contest.
As a team, BLC owned the advantages in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, rebounds, and assists.
The Vikings open a two-game homestand next week as they will first host North Central on Friday, Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
