Men's Basketball Moves to 9-0 After Convincing Win Over Northland

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany men's basketball team rolled from start to finish on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Northland 111-74. With the win the Vikings improve to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in the UMAC while the LumberJacks fall to 3-7 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Bethany started out strong in this one jumping out to lead of eight points early but seven straight points by the visitors would cut the deficit to one. That was as close as Northland would get though as the Vikings started to click on all cylinders, scoring 33 points in the last 10:30 of the first half and limiting Northland to just 10 as they took a 50-26 lead into the break.

The second half was much of the same for both teams, with Northland playing even early on before Bethany would start to assert themselves. Mason Ackley had a monster dunk just over five minutes into the half that pushed the Viking lead to 24, but the LumberJacks would curb the momentum and cut the lead to 68-49 with 13:54 remaining. From there on out though, it was all Bethany as the home team outscored Northland 43-25 in the last 13-plus minutes to take the convincing win.

Jax Madson led the charge in this one with 26 points and eight rebounds, while Ackley also added eight boards to go along with 19 points. Xavier Patterson posted a double-double coming off the bench for the Vikings as he tallied 17 points and dished out 10 assists. As a team, Bethany shot 65.2 (43-of-66) percent from the field and 51.7 percent from beyond the arc (15-of-29).

The Vikings are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Gustavus Adolphus for a 7 p.m. contest.
