Women's Basketball Runs Past LumberJills

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany women's basketball team used a complete effort on Saturday night to take down Northland 79-46. With the win the Vikings improve to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the UMAC while the LumberJills fall to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Bethany was looking to get off to a quick start in this one and did so, jumping out to an early 6-0 lead. They would build on that lead and push it to 16-7 after Ashley Schindele knocked down her second three pointer of the first quarter, before a Skylar Cotten three with a minute left would give the Vikings a 19-7 lead after one quarter of play. The second frame didn't see Bethany falter, as Haley Meyer knocked down a triple to open the quarter and the Vikings would continue to play stout defensively and strong on the offensive end as they outscored Northland 16-7 in the second to take a 35-14 lead into the half.

The second half was similar to the first, with the Viking offense continuing to click, as they would shoot 45 percent from the field in the third quarter and 50 percent from three en rout to scoring 24 points to hold a 59-31 lead after three quarters. They would go on to close out the game on a high note, outscoring Northland 20-15 in the final 10 minutes for the victory.

Cotten, Schindele, and Meyer all posted 14 points in the contest, with Meyer and Schindele adding seven rebounds apiece. Sara Kottke tallied 10 rebounds in the contest to go along with eight points, while Kaylee Hunter added nine points and three assists.

Bethany is back in action on Wednesday when they host UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
