ST. PAUL, Minn.—The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team's (13-10 overall, 9-4 UMAC) seven-game win streak was snapped with a 68-67 loss to the University of Northwestern (18-6, 12-1) Friday night.
UNW led by as many as seven early, but an 11-0 BLC run made it 26-22 with four minutes to go in the half. Bethany took a 38-36 advantage into the break.
Senior Jared Milinkovich (New Prague, Minn.) led the Vikings with eight points and four rebounds in the opening 20 minutes.
Despite shooting under 40% overall from the floor in the first half, both teams hit 50% of their three-pointers, with Bethany making 4-8 attempts and Northwestern going 7-14.
The Eagles claimed a two-point lead two minutes into the second, but a 19-3 Bethany run over the next seven minutes made it 59-45, Vikings.
Northwestern responded with a 7-0 run and later cut its deficit to just one, 61-60, with four minutes to play.
BLC then scored four unanswered and led 67-62 with 1:38 to go before UNW completed the game on a 6-0 run.
Milinkovich finished with a team-high 14 points.
Senior Cire Mayfield (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) had 13 points, five rebounds, and a team-high five assists on the night.
Classmate Jacob Milinkovich (New Prague, Minn.) scored 10 points and had two steals.
Bethany owned the advantages in assists (10-7) and in steals (4-2). Defensively, it held the Eagles to 25-65 (38.5%) shooting overall and just one second-half three-pointer.
The Vikings close out the regular season at North Central Saturday at 4:45 p.m.
