MANKATO, Minn. —The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team (14-6 overall, 9-0 UMAC) extended its winning streak to seven games with a 75-40 victory over Northland College (1-14, 0-9) Friday evening.
Senior Hanna Geistfeld (Truman, Minn.) tied her own single-game program mark with 38 points in the contest.
The Vikings trailed 4-2 early, but used a 16-0 run —which included three and-one opportunities for Geistfeld— to help them to an 18-6 lead after one.
BLC carried that momentum into the second quarter, as it took a 33-15 lead into halftime.
Bethany held a 25-12 advantage on the glass in the first half, and it also had 10 assists compared to the LumberJills' three. Junior Ashley Schindele (Kimball, Minn.) had a team-high four assists in the opening 20 minutes.
Geistfeld finished the half with 17 points and 11 rebounds to notch her 14th double double of the season.
The Vikings maintained its lead throughout a high-scoring third quarter, and led 52-32 entering the final frame.
Bethany stretched its lead with a 14-0 run to begin the fourth to put the game away.
Geistfeld had a game-high 17 rebounds to go with her 38 points.
Freshman Haley Meyer (Centerville, S.D.) joined Geistfeld in double digits with 12 points on the night.
Freshman Alexis Cloyd (Garden City, Minn.) had nine points and a team-high seven assists.
Schindele and senior Laura Ellinghuysen (Winona, Minn.) both finished with seven rebounds.
BLC outrebounded Northland in each quarter, as it ended the game with a plus-19 rebounding margin (41-22).
The Vikings continue their homestand Saturday afternoon to complete the season series versus Wisconsin-Superior. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
