MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team hosted Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon and took care of business with a 103-48 victory. With the win the Vikings move to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the UMAC while the Knights fall to 0-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
From the start this one was all Bethany, as the home team got out to a 15-0 lead through the first five minutes of play. They would continue to extend their lead, pushing it to 33-4 before the Knights would find the bottom of the net a few times to halt the run. Bethany would continue to extend their lead late though as they took a 51-17 lead into the break.
The second half was much of the same as the Vikings started the half on an 18-3 run to lead 69-20 with 14 minutes left. Bethany would outscore the Knights 34-28 in the remaining time to take the victory.
19 different Vikings scored in this one with Drew Sagedahl leading the charge with 16 points. Riley Ashburn had a strong day off the bench, posting 13 points and 11 rebounds for his second career double-double. In this contest, Bethany also tied the school record for rebounds in a game with 64 that they previously set against Martin Luther exactly one year ago tomorrow.
The Vikings are back in action next Friday when they travel to North Central for a 5:30 p.m. matchup.
