Vikings Bounce Back wtih Win Over Marian

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team Sunday traveled to the Wisconsin Dells for a neutral site contest with Marian University that saw the Vikings come away with an 85-67 win. With the victory, Bethany improves to 3-2 overall while Marian falls to 0-3.

The Vikings opened up the game on a 13-5 run, capped off by three pointers from Justin Schrupp and Kegan Heiderscheidt on back to back possessions. The game would play even for the next 10 minutes before Marian would make their first run, cutting the deficit to four points at 25-21 with just under five minutes to go. The rest of the half was all Bethany though, as they would use a 10-0 run to help push to a 42-28 lead headed into the half.  

To open the second half Marian would score the first four points to cut the deficit to 10, before three pointers from Schrupp and Dominik Bangu would give the Vikings their biggest lead of the game at 48-32 with 18:04 to play.. Marian would respond, trimming the lead back to 10 points before the Vikings would use a 12-2 run to take a 20 point lead at 64-44. From that point forward, it was all Bethany as the Sabres were never able to battle back in and Bethany claimed the 85-67 win.

Schrupp and Hunter Nielsen each had big days for Bethany with 20 points, with Nielsen also adding a team-high eight rebounds. Mason Ackley and Xavier Patterson also had great all-around games with Ackley posting a line of 15 points, six rebounds, and assists, while Patterson had 12 points, five rebounds and six assists.

The Vikings will next be in action on Saturday, as they play an exhibition at MSU-Mankato at 4 p.m.
