MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team hosted Coe College for their final game before Christmas break and fell to the Kohawks 89-66. With the loss the Vikings fall to 1-10 while Coe improves to 8-2.
Aubrea Kor and
Megan Wegner would open the game up with a pair of three pointers for Bethany to push them out to a 6-2 lead before the Kohawks made a 6-0 run go up two.
Juliana Ewald would then hit a three for the Vikings to go back up one before Coe would get their offense going late in the quarter to take a 16-13 lead headed to the second.
In the second frame, Bethany kept themselves in it the first few minutes before Coe would spark another run to hold a 37-26 lead with 4:03 to play in the half.
Gianna Klarenbeek would hit a three to end the run before Coe scored seven straight to end the quarter and take a 44-29 lead into the break.
After a tough end to the second, the Vikings figured things out in the third with Ewald and Wegner hitting back to back threes early in the frame to cut the deficit to 11 points. Coe would re-extend the lead to 15 points before
Lexiss Trygg scored four straight to bring it back to 11. After a Kohawk bucket inside, Klarenbeek would connect on another triple to cut it to 10. Coe would get a few buckets late and hold a 60-48 advantage headed to the fourth.
In the final frame with the Vikings pushing the pace to try to mount a comeback, the Kohawks would take advantage outscoring the home team 29-18 to take the win.
Klarenbeek had a great game for the Vikings, scoring 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting to including 3-of-4 from long range. Kor added 15 points for the Vikings to go along with six rebounds while Trygg posted 13 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.
The Vikings will now have some time off, as they'll next be in action on December 29
th at the Loras Tournament where they'll take on Simpson College at 2 p.m.
