MANKATO, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their men's basketball postseason awards on Tuesday and Bethany was well represented. In his third season at the helm of the Vikings, head coach Pat Garvin earned his first career Coach of the Year award, while all five Viking starters secured All-Conference Honors.
The five selections to the three All-Conference teams led all UMAC institutions, with Drew Sagedahl earning First Team, Jax Madson garnering Second Team, and the trio of Mason Ackley, Hunter Nielsen, and Xavier Patterson gaining Honorable Mention accolades. Ackley and Nielsen were also named to the UMAC's All-Defense Team.
Sagedahl shined in conference play, as the sophomore averaged a team-best 17.6 points per game while also grabbing 5.9 rebounds and a team-high 23 total steals. He shot 41.3 percent from long range and 87.3 percent from the line.
Madson and Patterson both averaged 14.1 points per game in conference, with Madson adding 5.9 boards per game and Patterson dishing out 3.5 assists.
Nielsen posted 12.0 points per game during the conference season, while also securing 8.2 rebounds per game. Ackley was right behind Nielsen at 11.9 points per game, while he hauled in 7.1 rebounds with an average of 2.6 of those being on the offensive end. Â
Nielsen also posted a conference leading 28 blocks to help his case for the All Defensive Team, while Ackley had 16 total steals and was oft tasked with guarding the opposing team's top scoring option.
