Hunter’s Buzzer Beater Forces OT Where Vikings Defeat Polars

<strong>ST. BONIFACIOUS, Minn. – </strong>The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team trailed by three points with just seconds to go in regulation before <dfn><a href="/roster.aspx?rp_id=4986" rev="4986">Kaylee Hunter</a></dfn> played hero, draining a shot from well beyond the arc to force overtime where the Vikings defeated Crown 84-79. With the win Bethany improves to 3-13 overall and 3-2 in the UMAC while the Polars fall to 2-13 overall and 1-4 in the conference.<br /> <br /> The first half of this contest played back and forth, with Bethany running out to an 18-13 lead after 10 minutes of play. Crown would bounce back, putting up 23 points in the second while limiting the Vikings to just 14 as they claimed a 36-32 lead as the teams headed to halftime.<br /> <br /> After pushing their lead to 38-34 early in the third, the Vikings would score the next 11 points as they would take a seven point lead at the midway point of the frame. Both teams used multiple runs in the contest though, with Crown using a run of their own and scoring seven straight to even things at 45. Neither team could really muster much offense the remainder of the quarter though as Bethany would lead 49-48 after three quarters.<br /> <br /> Crown would jump all over the Vikings in the fourth, outscoring them 16-5 in the first five minutes as they would claim a 10-point lead at the midway point of the quarter. A free throw with four minutes left would push their lead to 11 and things looked bleak for Bethany.<br /> <br /> <dfn><a href="/roster.aspx?rp_id=5007" rev="5007">Lexiss Trygg</a></dfn> would leave her stamp on the game in the final minutes though, as she scored six points as part of a 13-3 run as the Vikings would pull within one with 1:30 to play. Crown would answer with a bucket before another Trygg basket inside brought the deficit back to one. Three made free throws from the Polars would push the lead to four with 18 seconds left before a quick Trygg bucket would pull things within two.<br /> <br /> After Crown would split their next pair of free throws, the theatrics would be set up as the Vikings called a timeout and had the ball at mid court with just a few seconds to play and trailing by three.  Hunter would cue the inbounds play and find Trygg who would hand it back to Hunter, where the sophomore hoisted from way downtown just before the clock struck zero and connected to send the game to overtime.<br /> <br /> Crown would make a free throw to open the overtime period but it was all Vikings from there on out. Trygg would score six points as the Vikings went on an 8-0 to take an 84-77 lead with under a minute to go. The Polars would get a pair of free throws late but couldn't connect on their final possessions as the Vikings escaped with the win.<br /> <br /> Trygg had a dominating performance in this one pouring in 24 points and adding nine rebounds and a pair of blocks to pace the Vikings. <dfn><a href="/roster.aspx?rp_id=5279" rev="5279">Gianna Klarenbeek</a></dfn> also was in double digits with 16 while <dfn><a href="/roster.aspx?rp_id=4994" rev="4994">Megan Wegner</a></dfn> scored her season high with 14 points in the win.<br /> <br /> Bethany will now be back at it next Friday when they travel to UW-Superior for a 5:30 p.m. contest.<br />  <br />
