Box Score ST. PETER, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team Tuesday night traveled to Gustavus to take on the Gusties and fell by a score of 93-71. With the loss the Vikings fall to 2-7 on the year while Gustavus moves to 8-2.
Both teams got out to quick starts offensively scoring 10 points in the first four minutes, but seven straight from the Vikings including four in a row from
Jack Brockmann would give them the early lead. The Gusties would answer back with 14 of the next 19 points to take a 24-22 lead, before a
Drew Sagedahl triple would put the visitors back in front.
After five straight from Gustavus made the score 28-25 each team would then add four more points before the Gusties went on their run to end the half. They would play the final 5:30 to the tune of a 12-6 advantage and would claim a 44-35 lead headed into the halftime break.
Teon Thomas would hit an early three in the second to cut the Gustavus lead down to eight points, but the home team would respond with 15 of the next 17 points to lead 61-40 with 13 minutes to go.
The Vikings would get the lead back down to 17 points with just nine minutes to play, but six straight from the Gusties would put them up 23 with seven to go and they would cruise from there for the 93-71 win.
Sagedahl and
DJ Akpati each had 14 points in the game for Bethany with Akpati adding a team-best four assists, while Brockmann added 13 points of the bench on 4-of-6 shooting.
The Vikings will next be in action on December 29th when they take on No. 5 UW-Platteville as part of the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament hosted by St. Norbert.
