ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - Former UMAC women's basketball foes Bethany and St. Scholastica faced each other Friday night in the season opener and the Saints came out on top 64-53.Â
The Vikings had a strong start in the first quarter, shooting 58.3 percent and carried a 15-13 lead into the second. That's when St. Scholastica took over, out-scoring the Vikings 23-6 in the frame for a 36-21 advantage at half. Bethany made just 1-of-12 shots from the field in the second.Â
The Vikings out-scored the Saints in both the third (18-15) and fourth (14-13) but the deficit was too large to overcome.Â
Kenadi Arndt led the Vikings with 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field, including a team-high nine rebounds. Arinn McGee was next with 10 points and eight rebounds.Â
Bethany faces host Saint Ben's at 3 p.m. Saturday.Â
