Fast Start Propels Women's Basketball Past UW-Superior

SUPERIOR, Wis. - Bethany women's basketball jumped out to a 12-0 lead at UW-Superior and never looked back Saturday in a 68-59 victory, improving to 5-10 overall and 2-0 in the UMAC.

The Vikings made a trio of threes from Megan Wegner, Kenadi Arndt, and Morgan Hulke in the first three minutes of the game before the Yellowjackets scored their first points at the 6:07 mark of the opening quarter. Bethany led 19-11 after 10 minutes and never trailed.

Another three from Hulke in the final minute of the second quarter gave the visitors a 41-28 advantage, which was the largest lead of the half.

UW-Superior opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run, cutting the deficit to five points, but the Vikings responded with a 13-6 run to close out the quarter with a 54-42 lead. The Yellowjackets closed the gap to five points again with 36 seconds left in the game, but Kaylee Hunter and Wegner closed it out at the line with four made free throws.

Wegner led the Vikings with a career-high 18 points and shot 3-of-6 from long range. Arinn McGee added 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Arndt and Hulke also reached double figures with 10 points apiece.
