The Ronald J. Younge Gymnasium, formerly the South Gym, is the larger of Bethany's two gymnasiums. In addition to sporting events, the gym is used for events such as Opening Service and Commencement. The South Gym is open to students for general use during certain hours of the day.
How the gym got its name: In May 2010 the Bethany Lutheran College Board of Regents unanimously approved to rename the South Gym to the Ronald J. Younge Gymnasium.
Younge arrived on the Bethany campus in 1967 and most recently as vice president for academic affairs. While Younge held many important roles on the Bethany campus, many know him for his years coaching (1967-86) the Bethany men's basketball team. In December 2009, Younge announced his retirement effective June 30, 2010.
