Pat Garvin '14 enters his sixth season as the head men's basketball coach in 2025-26.
During the 2024-25 season, the Vikings posted a 14-14 overall record and 9-5 mark in conference, going on to win their third straight UMAC Tournament title and advancing to their third striaght NCAA Tournament. Bethany had three players named All-Conference, with Drew Sagedahl earning First Team honors and going on to gain All-Region honors from both the NABC (Second Team) and D3hoops.com (Third Team).
In 2023-24, Bethany went on to claim both the UMAC regular season and postseason title for the second consecutive season. The Vikings posted a school record 24-4 record while going a perfect 14-0 in conference play. Garvin also saw the program gain its first All-American in 2023-24, as Hunter Nielsen earned Third Team accolades from the NABC. 2023-24 was also the second straight year that Garvin earned UMAC Coach of the Year honors.Â
2022-23 was a season to remember for the Vikings, who went 23-5 during the year and 12-2 in the UMAC to claim the regular season title. The Vikings, who won their first 12 games of the season, won the UMACÂ Tournament for the first time since 2019-20, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Bethany had all five of its starters named to the 15 All-Conference spots in 2022-23.Â
Garvin comes to BLC after serving the last three seasons as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Minnesota State University in Mankato. Over the last three seasons, the Mavericks have made two appearances in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen round in 2017-18. Garvin was named a National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Under Armour 30-Under-30 award winner in 2017-18, which recognizes a group of up and coming young coaches in men's college basketball.
Prior to MSU, Garvin was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Benedictine University in Mesa, Arizona for two seasons, was a graduate assistant at MSU for the previous two seasons, and was an assistant coach at Bethany in 2013-14.
During his time as a student-athlete, the Vikings won the 2011-12 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship, and qualified for the conference tournament all four years. Garvin continues to rank in the top 10 of five career categories and in two season categories.

The Jackson, Minn. native earned his bachelor’s degree from Bethany in broad field social studies in 2014, and earned his master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine in 2016.
