Mankato, Minn. – The women’s soccer team defeated the Crown Storm 5-1 on Friday, putting the team’s overall record at 8-2-2- and conference record at 4-1-2.
The first goal of the game came 19 minutes in when Kelli Kitzman (Osseo, Minn./Osseo) found the back of the net with a little help from Maggie LaPlante (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake) and Joelle Pipal (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) who were credited with an assist. Before the first half was over the Vikings would score three more times.
Pipal got the next goal assisted by Paige Taylor (Coon Rapids, Minn./DCTC). Then LaPlante got one past the keeper assisted by Pipal. Less than a minute separated the goals.
Crown got on the scoreboard when a high ball slipped through the hands of Alexa Mowery (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) who recorded five saves on the day for the Vikings.
Defender Jessica Wacholz (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) scored on a free kick to put the half time score at 4-1.
In the second half it was Kitzman again who got the goal, this time unassisted in the 88th minute.
The Vikings will play Northwestern on Saturday at 2 p.m.
