Women's basketball still searching for first win

Game One

Game Two

Milwaukee, Wis. – The Viking women’s basketball team had a disappointing weekend at the Alverno Tip-Off Tournament. Bethany Lutheran fell to Buena Vista Friday night 80-71, and then fell to the host team Saturday 90-74.

Game One:

The Vikings kept up with the Beavers until about six minutes left in the first half when Buena Vista was able to burst a number of short runs the Vikings couldn’t answer. BLC went into the locker room down 38-35 after getting a little momentum back cutting the 12 point deficit into just five. The Beavers regrouped during half time and managed to extend the lead outscoring the Vikings in the second half by four.

The Vikings were led by senior Nicole Jones (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) who recorded 19 points and seven steals. Anna Cepek (Aurora, Neb./Aurora) led the team in rebounds pulling down six, she also contributed 18 points and two blocks.

Game Two:

On Saturday, the Vikings came out flat against Alverno only posting 29 points compared to Alverno’s 48 in the first half. Bethany Lutheran’s offensive struggles were squashed after halftime outscoring their opponent 45-42 in the second, but the first half debt was too much to make up.

Jones once again led the team in points with 17, she also grabbed nine boards, and five steals. Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Vikings are still searching for their first win of the season standing at 0-3 overall. Bethany Lutheran will travel to Forest City, Iowa to take on Waldorf at 6 p.m. tomorrow.
