Women's basketball defeats Waldorf 64-61

Forest City, Iowa – The women’s basketball team earned their first win against Waldorf in a game that came down to the last minute. The score was tied 13 times in a back and forth battle.

 

The Vikings led at the half by one point in a game that had seven lead changes. The score was tied at 61 with 2 minutes and 12 seconds left to go until a foul gave the Vikings an opportunity to take the lead with 54 seconds on the clock. Anna Cepek (Aurora, Neb./Aurora) made both of the critical free throws. In an attempt to control the game, Waldorf fouled Nicole Jones (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) who recorded 19 points and eight rebounds.. Jones went 1-1 from the line to finalize the score 64-61.

 

The Vikings shot 40.7 percent from the field. They were 3-6 from behind the arc in the first half, but 0-7 in the second half. The story for Waldorf was similar shooting 36.2 percent from the field, going 0-11 in three-points in the second.

 

Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./St. Francis) had a stand out game managing a double-double with 24 points and 13 boards. Englund was the team’s leading scorer going 9-12 from the field, and 2-2 in three-point shots.  

 
The Vikings will take on North Central in Minneapolis at 7 p.m. on December 7.
