Roseville, Minn. – The women’s soccer season ended after a battle with second ranked Northwestern Eagles in the UMAC semifinals. The Vikings fell 2-1 in overtime.
The Vikings got out to an early lead with Kristin Renner (Victoria, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) scoring at the 18:14 mark. Her goal was unassisted. Later in the first half, Northwestern was able to sneak one past Vikings keeper Alexa Mowery (Fairmont, Minn./Fairmont) who recorded four saves on the day. Despite the Eagles outshooting the Vikings 8-1 in the first half, the game remained tied going into the locker room.
During the second half, a battle back and forth ensued. This time Northwestern only outshot the Bethany Lutheran 4-3, during all of the game the Eagles had a 3-2 corner kick advantage. Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie.
In overtime the Vikings and Eagles each had a shot, but Northwestern was able to put it on goal a little over 95 minutes into the game for the win.
The women’s soccer team set many records this season, with individuals crushing the all-time points records, all-time goals record, and most assists in a single season. The team posted its best record since joining the NCAA Division III and UMAC finishing the season 13-6-2 overall, and 9-3-2 in the conference.
