Mankato, Minn. - The Vikings fell to the Central Dutch 96-84 after a disappointing first half that put Bethany Lutheran in a 21 point deficit.
The Vikings were only able to post a 33.3 percent field goal percentage in the first half going 0-6 behind the arc. The Dutch, on the other hand, had an impressive first half sinking seven three-pointers. Central managed a 70 percent field goal percentage in the first 20 minutes to squander the confidence of the BLC defense. After a rough first half the Vikings regrouped to come out with intensity in the second.
Bethany Lutheran outscored the Dutch 54-45 in the second, but could not crawl out of the first half hole. The Viking fared better shooting 64.5 percent form the field but struggled at the free throw line making 9-19. Bethany Lutheran’s defense took away the three-point opportunity for their opponents by allowing only two attempts behind the arc.
Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Mayo) had a stand out night contributing 25 points, six assists, and three steals for the Vikings. Benson shot an impressive 10-16 from the field. Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) had 14 points and five rebounds. Freshman Sami Onsomu (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) led the Vikings in rebounds picking up six boards, he also tallied 11 points. Coach Jeddeloh once again spread out playing time with a 17 player rotation.
The Vikings will play at Carleton in Northfield, Minnesota, tomorrow at 3 p.m.
