Late Warrior surge hands Vikings first home loss

Box Score

Mankato, Minn. - The women’s basketball team fell in the home opener to Waldorf Thursday night by a score of 81-75. Just three weeks ago the Vikings were able to defeat Waldorf in Forest City, Iowa 64-61.

The Vikings came out flat allowing the Warriors to go on an 8-0 run to start the game. Bethany Lutheran fought back to go into the locker room ahead by three at half time, but couldn’t hold on in the second half. Waldorf hit a series of while timed three-pointers totaling six in the second half to boost momentum, while shooting 100 percent from the free throw line going 18-18 in the game.

The Vikings were led by Jessica England (Andover, Minn./St Francis) who posted a team high 19 points. Nicole Jones (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) posted a double-double with 13 points while grabbing 14 rebounds. Caitlin Meyer (Mankato, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran) saw her first playing time of the year last night as well contributing 12 points off of the bench.

The Vikings will now head south to California to play in the San Diego Surf N’ Slam Classic. The next home game will be January 7 against Finlandia.
