Vikings drop first conference game of the season

Mankato, Minn. - Bethany Lutheran men’s basketball dropped their first conference game of the year to UMAC preseason favorites Minnesota-Morris 92-80. Bethany led 48-45 at halftime, however the Cougars were able to cool the Vikings hot shooting in the second half to win by 12.

The Vikings shot 60.6 percent in the first half to take the three point lead into halftime, however they shot 41.4% in the second half including 0-10 from three point range. The Vikings were out rebounded by eight, and gave up 27 points to the Cougars from the free-throw line.

Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Mayo) led the balanced attack for the Vikings with 14 points. Alex Weldon (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/LinMar), Derek Peterson (Oakdale, Minn/Tartan), and Sami Onsomu (Mankato, Minn/Mankato East) all scored in double figures with 13, 12, 10 respectively. Peterson led the Vikings with seven rebounds while Patrick Garvin (Jackson, Minn/Jackson), and Benson both dished out six assists.

The Vikings will play host to Presentation tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Mankato. The Vikings are now 6-9 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
