Northwestern's depth leads to Viking loss

St. Paul, Minn. - The women’s basketball team came up short against Northwestern, losing a close game by a score of 75-69. The Vikings record is now 8-9 overall and 4-3 in the conference which puts them tied for third with Northland.

 

Bethany led 28-27 at halftime, however couldn’t hold onto the lead in the second half. The Vikings out scored the Eagles in the paint 38 to 10, but Northwestern’s bench out scored Bethany’s 29 to 2.

 

The Vikings were led once again by Nicole Jones (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) who had 20 points and nine rebounds. Anna Cepek (Aurora, Neb./ Aurora) had another double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Caitlin Meyer (Mankato, Minn./ Minnesota Valley Lutheran) and Jessica Englund (Andover, Minn./ St. Francis) both added 12 points.

 

The Vikings will continue conference play on Tuesday when they travel to New Ulm to play rival Martin Luther at 5:30 p.m. The Vikings beat the Knights earlier this year 84-60 in Mankato.
