Mankato, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran women’s soccer team pulled off a huge win in double overtime against UW-Superior on Wednesday, winning the non-conference game with only a minute to spare.
Lexie Mowery (Fairmont, Minn. / Fairmont) recorded her fourth shutout of the year making 14 saves on 28 shots. The defense was great in the game, working together and clearing the ball well.
The Bethany Lutheran offense passed the ball with great communication, keeping good flow and then chipping it over the top to create scoring opportunities. They managed to get off 17 shots against the UW-Superior defense.
Hannah Spaulding (Savage, Minn. / St. Croix Lutheran) scored the game winner, right up the middle from outside the box. She scored in the 108th minute, leaving only 1:12 on the second overtime clock. Ariel Christensen (Albert Lea, Minn. / Albert Lea) had the assist on the game winning goal.
Bethany will now face conference opponent MLC in New Ulm on Saturday at noon. Bethany is now 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
