Vikings travel to St. Olaf for season opener

Northfield, Minn. – The Vikings took on a very talented St. Olaf squad in their season opener on the road, eventually falling 50-71.
 
Bethany Lutheran played a solid first half shooting a 47.6 field goal percentage. At the end of the first half the Vikings were down by two. BLC struggled with ball handling in the second half giving the Oles an opportunity to take control of the game.
 
In the second half the Vikes only managed a 35.0 field goal percentage, while St. Olaf shot 54.8 percent from the field. St. Olaf scored 24 points off of 23 Bethany Lutheran turnovers.
 
Gavin Kroehler (Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson) led the team with 12 points, he also had four rebounds and one steal. Derek Peterson (St. Paul, Minn./Tartan) had nine points and led the team in rebounds with six, he also had one steal and one assist. Garrett Benson (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and Alex Weldon (Linmar, Iowa/Linmar) each had seven points. 
 
The Vikings will travel again this weekend to play at the Bethel Tournament. BLC will take on the host team on November 18 at 8 p.m. On November 19 the Vikings will take on UW-River Falls or Loras.
